Beremin model: Methodology and application to the prediction of the Euro toughness data set

Abstract

This study aims to present a short and efficient way to apply the original Beremin model, published in 1983, to predict the scatter in the brittle part of the brittle-to-ductile transition curve of ferritic steels. From an engineering point of view, the application of this model has been hampered by the lack of an analytical solution for one of its parameters, Cm,n. Thus in this work, particular attention is paid to calculating it numerically, and to providing a table of accurate values. The proposed approach is validated by comparing the results given by the application of the unimodal Beremin theory to an existing Euro fracture toughness database.
