Identification and Localization of Incipient Intermittent Inter-Turn Fault in the Stator of a Three Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

Abstract

This paper discusses the detection and the localization of incipient intermittent fault in the stator winding. The study is applied to a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The detection method uses the fault signature to identify its presence and then it uses the phase to phase voltages to localize the phase containing the defected turns. The theoretical and the experimental results show the effectiveness of the method.
