Hybrid control of uncertain process systems

Abstract

Hybrid control refers to control structures that integrate lower-level continuous controllers together with higher-level logic-based supervisors that orchestrate switching between the constituent controllers. In this work, we consider linear process systems with input constraints and uncertain variables and develop a hybrid robust control structure that employs switching between bounded robust control and MPC to achieve stabilization. The robust hybrid control structure provides a safety net for the practical implementation of MPC to linear systems with uncertainty. The implementation and efficacy of the proposed hybrid robust control structure is demonstrated through a simulation example.
