Application of digital filtering to noise reduction in exponential decays

Abstract

Application of a simple digital filter to decays which can be represented as sums of exponential functions substantially reduces noise in the measurements, while at the same time leaving rate constants invariant and changing amplitudes of different exponential components in a known way. With some limitations this noise reduction method is also applicable to periodic and quasi-periodic phenomena.
