Two-phase pressure drop through obstructions

Abstract

Local pressure drop measurements for single and two-phase flows have been carried out along vertical and horizontal channels with Meriam 33KB35 well-type manometers. Both bubbly and annular flow patterns have been investigated. An analysis based on multi-dimensional computations has been carried out for obstructed axisymmetrical flows. The relation between the pressure drop and the obstructured flow momentum has been investigated. The results have indicated that the local pressure drop depends strongly upon the size and the location of the blockage. Larger pressure drops have been observed for larger obstructions or obstructions located in the mixture having higher momentum. In horizontal flow, stratification influences significantly the pressure drop.
