Environment-responsive membranes, suitable for carrying out hydrophobic interaction membrane chromatography (HIMC) were prepared by modification of a commercial hydrophobic microporous polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane with a salt-responsive hydrogel composed of poly(N-vinyl lactam) cross-linked with bisacrylamide.
