Photoelectron bremsstrahlung-analytical possibilities

Abstract

In the course of analysing spectra from the in vivo measurement of lead in bone, features were observed which contributed to the background in the region of the lead Kbeta 1 and Kbeta 3 X-ray peaks. The in vivo X-ray fluorescence technique has been reported previously (Somerville et al. 1985). It uses 88 keV gamma -rays from an annular 109Cd source mounted coaxially with a hyperpure germanium detector thus employing a near back-scatter geometry. The features near the Kbeta 1,3 X-rays at about 85 keV were attributed to the upper energy ends of bremsstrahlung spectra from electrons (Chettle et al., 1989).
