A new definition of suspended sediment: Implications for the measurement and prediction of sediment transport

Abstract

Sediment (floc) structure is discussed in relation to its influence on the measurement and prediction of sediment transport. Structural characteristics of floc size, porosity, density and compositional matrix are investigated with the aim of creating a new paradigm of suspended sediment. This new paradigm is intended to influence the development of new techniques and strategies for the quantification of suspended sediment transport in aquatic environments.
