Rick Monture’s research interests range from 20th century American literature (with emphasis on Faulkner, the Beats and Counterculture writing), Indigenous literatures of North America (oral and written), popular music (Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, Punk), Indigenous intellectual traditions (language & culture), and Indigenous activism in its various forms (visual sovereignty and Land Back).

He welcomes graduate supervisees in the areas of 19th and 20th-century American literature, Indigenous writing and resilience, music and pop culture criticism, environmental activism, and Indigenous intellectual traditions.
