Janice Chaplin
Associate Professor, Social Work

My pedagogical commitments centre around education for professional social work practice. I live out these commitments through my role as coordinator of the School’s undergraduate Field Education Program, in my teaching and mentorship, and in my program of pedagogical research.

I am a longstanding social work practitioner, field instructor and classroom teacher. In each of those domains I have anchored my approach in principles of equity and social justice. My unique role of Teaching Professor and Field Education Co-ordinator allows me to develop and organize field placements and simultaneously to develop and implement curriculum in core/required courses that prepare students for practice.

My current research focus is on the experiences of equity seeking students in field placements, field instructor perspectives on supervising students and supports they need which would help them in this work.
