NON-ISOTHERMAL POLYMER FLOW FROM VISCOMETER RESERVOIR TO CAPILLARY DIE.

Abstract

The non-isothermal flow of polymer melts in a sudden axisymmetric contraction has been simulated by means of the finite element method. The rheological behavior of the melt is described by a power-law temperature-dependent model based on experimental measurements. The relative effects of viscous dissipation and convection are studied and temperature profiles are presented for different material and processing variables.
