Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) is never hydrophobic

Abstract

PNIPAM chains have hydrophobic and hydrophilic domains below and above the LCST. Temperature dependent interactions between PNIPAM and solutes arise because of changes in the local environment around the hydrophobic isopropyl domains.
