On the description of deformation of large imposed plastic strains

Abstract

The work-hardening rates of a variety of aluminum alloys and steels have been obtained using both tensile tests and instrumented bulge tests. The objective of the study was to examine the progressive decrease of work-hardening rate at large plastic strains. The results are compared with current theories of dynamic recovery. It is shown that the influence of solutes on the rate of dynamic recovery and the influence of strain rate on the work-hardening rate at large strains may exert a major effect on the stability of plastic deformation at large plastic strains.
