Residual Stress and Distortion in Cast Components

Abstract

Abstract This article discusses the impact and causes of residual stress and distortion in castings. The article explains the three experimental techniques typically used for measuring residual stresses in cast components: hole drilling, x-ray diffraction, and neutron diffraction. It reviews residual stress mitigation strategies for cast components and residual stress management strategies.
