Risk Assessment in Clinical Decision Making

Abstract

Abstract This article discusses the technical definition of risk and focuses on risks to patients in a clinical setting, particularly of events involving physical harm due to therapeutic intervention. It is shown that risk estimation involves both calculation of the risks and benefits involved, but also includes elements of risk communication, perception, and acceptance.
