Genitourinary Interventions

Abstract

Image-guided genitourinary interventions are safe and effective techniques and constitute a significant proportion of the daily workload of the interventional radiologist. In this chapter, we discuss interventions such as kidney biopsy, transjugular renal biopsy, percutaneous nephrostomy drainage, ureteral stenting, suprapubic catheter insertion, renal artery angioplasty and stenting, and prostatic artery embolization. There have in fact been many advances in particular fields of genitourinary guided interventions, and this chapter will both focus as a reference for the previously elucidated techniques as outlined in the first edition and introduce in more detail a few new techniques. Of note, there is new evidence showing that prostatic artery embolization is in fact quite an effective treatment, and this will be further explored at the end of the chapter (Ibrahim et al., Cureus, 14(2):e22593, 2022).
