Near room-temperature magnetocaloric effect in FeMnPBC metallic glasses with tunable Curie temperature

Abstract

The magnetic and magnetocaloric properties were investigated in Fe80−xMnxP10B7C3 (x=13, 14, 15, 16, 18) metallic glasses. Tunable Curie temperature and magnetic entropy change are executed by controlling the content of Mn. The average magnetic moment per (Fe+Mn) atom correlates with the magnetic entropy change ∆SM linearly, which can interpret the decreasing of ∆SM with increasing Mn. Fe65Mn15P10B7C3 alloy exhibits the highest refrigeration capacity of 147.09Jkg−1 and moderate peak magnetic entropy of 1.12Jkg−1K−1 under maximum applied field of 2T. This family of low-cost Fe-based alloys provides a candidate used as near room-temperature magnetic refrigerant.
