Maternal Opioid Treatment After Delivery and Risk of Adverse Infant Outcomes: A Population-Based Cohort Study

Abstract

( BMJ. 2023;380:e074005) The use of opioids for pain relief following delivery is common; however, there is increasing concern that opioids are being passed to infants in large quantities during breastfeeding. This study aimed to determine if maternal postpartum use of opioids is associated with long-term side effects and complications in breastfeeding infants.
