Implant failure in a distal radius low-profile plate: a rare presentation and literature review

Abstract

IntroductionVolar plate fixation for a distal radius fracture is a commonly performed surgery. However, there is paucity in literature describing an implant failure at this site.DiscussionWe describe a rare case of fracture of a low-profile Ellis T plate. We discuss in detail the biomechanical factors associated with such a rare implant failure situation.ConclusionWe also highlight the importance of surgical technique to avoid implant failure when faced with such a scenario.
