Chapter 34 Diagnostic Instruments

Abstract

This chapter reviews the equipment needed by contact lens practitioners to appropriately undertake the initial assessment, fitting and follow-up care of the contact lens patient. It includes equipment to examine the quality and quantity of the tear film, meibomian glands, cornea, conjunctiva and lids. Multifunctional instruments that are able to undertake several functions, digital imaging of the anterior segment, ocular thermography, corneal sensitivity, pachymetry and equipment to assist with myopia control are also covered.
