Abstract Solar flux densities and heating rates predicted by a broadband, multilayer δ-Eddington two-stream approximation are compared to estimates from a Monte Carlo model that uses detailed descriptions of cloud particle phase functions and facilitates locally nonzero net horizontal flux densities.
