Balanced Polymorphism
Abstract
A balanced polymorphism describes the maintenance of alternative forms of a gene or trait in a population over prolonged periods of time. Such polymorphisms may be maintained by selection through heterozygote advantage, frequency-dependent selection, and environmental heterogeneity.
