Estimating the demand for energy Heat without light

Abstract

In recent years, a spate of papers has appeared which attempt to estimate the behavioural demand for energy. Some of these papers are critically examined, but before doing this, the author steps back to examine the essential features of energy demand which estimation should try to capture. Even if all these features are identified, how useful are behavioural demand functions, estimated over the 1960–1972 period, for policy analysis?
