Small intestine; Anatomy

Abstract

The small intestine is a convoluted tube ranging from 3 to 9 m in length, depending on the tone and the degree of stretch induced during measurement. It extends from the pylorus to the large intestine at the ileocecal junction. It is classically divided into three segments, the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. Although regional differences exist within the small intestine, the general structure is similar throughout its length.
