Hydrogendeuterium exchange of heteroaromatics in neutral D2O at elevated temperatures
Abstract
Pyridine (1), 2-methylpyridine (2), 3-methylpyridine (3), 4-methylpyridine (4), and 1,10-phenanthroline undergo H—D exchange in neutral D 2 O at elevated temperatures (180–300 °C). With a suitable choice of temperature and reaction time it is possible to prepare selectively deuterated or perdeuterated substrates in good yield.
