INFLUENCE OF HYDRODYNAMIC FORCES ON RETENTION AID PERFORMANCE: MODEL EXPERIMENTS.
Abstract
Adhesion measurements of polystyrene latex bonded to glaSS WITH POLYETHYLENEIMINE (PEI) in aqueous solution indicated that the strength of polystyrene-PEI-glass bonds increased with increasing molecular weight of PEI and pH. The maximum shear rates that fibers experience at many locations in a paper mill and in the Dynamic Draiage Jar are at least an order of magnitude greater than the shear rates required to break polystyrene-PEI-glass bonds. …
