Systematic Evaluation of Graphene-Based Materials By Hydrothermal Reduction for Supercapacitor Applications

A supercapacitor stores energy by electrical double-layer mechanism using electrostatic ion adsorption at the electrode surface and/or by reversible Faradaic charge transfer mechanisms. Graphene has been recognized as an excellent candidate for supercapacitors due to their high surface area (theoretical surface area: 2630 m2g-1) and excellent electrical conductivity. In this study, we report possible synergistic effects resulting from the combination of nitrogen doping and amine functionalization on rGO (reduced graphene oxide) for electrochemical supercapacitor performances. The specific capacitance of control rGO was 198 Fg-1 at a charge/discharge current density of 10 Ag-1. Compare to control rGO, the nitrogen doped rGO showed more pronounced electrochemical performance with higher specific capacitance values.
