INFLUENCE OF CONVEYING CONDITIONS ON POWDER INJECTION PROCESSES FOR DESULFURIZATION.

Abstract

Nirtogen and silica powder were injected into liquid lead adjacent to a transparent window so that the flow patterns could be photographed. The gas flow rates were such that bubbles were produced. Existing processes for iron and steel desulfurization were surveyed. It was found that the injection of coarse materials such as magnesium granules or calcium silicide produces similar lance clogging events.
