Even though systems integration and collaboration are not new research topics, with the rapid advancement of information and communication technologies, particularly Internet and web-based technologies during the last two decades, new systems integration and collaboration technologies have been proposed, developed, and deployed in different application domains, including engineering design, manufacturing, construction, and services. These technologies provide a consistent set of solutions to support the collaborative creation, management, dissemination, and use of information through the entire product and project lifecycle and, further, to integrate people, processes, business systems, and information more effectively. This Special Issue is aimed at reviewing state-of-the-art research and applications, addressing the major challenges and issues when developing and applying novel systems integration and collaboration technologies in engineering design, manufacturing, construction, and services. The six papers included in this Special Issue address some of these challenges and issues from different perspectives. Each paper presents one or more techniques to support systems integration and collaboration in a specific application domain.
