Some Magnetic Properties of the System LaxGd1−x TiO3

Abstract

The solid solutions LaxGd1−xTiO3 (x=0−1) form an isostructural series crystallizing in the GdFeO3 structure. The susceptibility of LaTiO3 is temperature Independent down to 130K, at which point it increases dramatically. Hysteresis, consistent with weak ferromagnetism, has also been reported at 4.2K.(1) GdTiO3 appears to be ferrimagnetic (Tc=33K) with a saturation moment of 3.3×104 emu mole−1 at 4.2K.(2) In this work, magnetization data as a function of temperature are reported for powder samples of intermediate composition (Fig.1).
