Polymer Melt Mixing in Twin Screw Extruders

Abstract

Twin screw extruders emerge as an essential technique in materials applications such as devolatilization, mixing and melting, specifically for materials that are more viscous after melting such as polymers. Twin screw extruder is commonly distinct by its rotational direction and intermeshing structure. Throughout this work the mixing features of the intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder is discussed. Additionally some current modeling and visualizations are reviewed, both 2D and 3D.
