Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of biofeedback in the treatment of functional constipation in Chinese population. Methods: CNKI (Jan, 1990 to Apr, 2012), Wanfang data (Jan, 1990 to Apr, 2012), VIP (1989 to 2012), Pubmed, and Springer databases were researched to collect randomized controlled trials. Results: Seven papers were included. Symptom scores showed no statistical difference between experiment group(bifeedback treat ment) and control group(conventional treatment) according to four researches. Two researches indicated that the systolic pressure and rest pressure of the anal cannel had no statistic differences between experiment group and control group. Five researches, as compared to Chinese medical ligation treatment (two researches) and laxatives (three researches), showed that the biofeedback had no statistic difference in clinical outcomes (effectiveness, improvement, ineffectiveness, and total effective rate). Conclusion: For untypable functional constipation, biofeedback treatment showed no significant difference as compared to conventional treatment.
