Human mast cell and basophil/eosinophil progenitors
Abstract
Mast cell, basophil, and eosinophil lineages all derive from CD34 + hemopoietic stem cells; however, mast cells are derived from a distinct, nonmyeloid progenitor, while eosinophils and basophils share a common myeloid progenitor. These progenitors likely evolved from an ancestral leukocyte population involved in innate immunity and currently play a central role in the pathology of allergic disease.
