Perturbed Angular Correlation Study of the Environment of 111Cd Nuclei in Ice

Abstract

A perturbed angular correlation study of 111Cd ions in frozen aqueous solutions of InCl3 and In(NO3)3 has demonstrated the variation in behavior of these systems with temperature from − 140 to − 20°C. At the lowest temperature a strong static quadrupole interaction (ωQ = 1.6 × 107rad/sec) was observed. Above − 80°C, a time-dependent perturbation was found, and the temperature dependence of the correlation time was measured.
