3-D neutron tomography method for measurement of soot deposition in silicon carbide filters

Abstract

A key component in many pollution control technologies is the use of a ceramic filter. However, the performance of a filter will change with increasing loadings and the distribution within the filter will be a function of the flow conditions both upstream and downstream of the filter. Improved understanding of filter efficiency during operation is dependent upon knowledge of the local particle deposition distribution within the filter. Neutron radiography (NR) has been identified as an effective means of non-destructively identifying hydrogen or carbon based components of particulate matter (PM). In this study, we develop a method for a 3-D neutron tomography algorithm for identifying distribution of particles. © 2014 ICIC International.
