Defining a simulation benchmark for control strategies

Abstract

A standardized simulation tool - the simulation benchmark - was developed to evaluate respirometry-related activated sludge control strategies under realistic conditions. The simulation tool was designed for the objective evaluation, comparison and contrast of different strategies with various aims. The tool was an attempt to evaluate these strategies using a common set of criterion. It was important to make implementation decisions that will have minimal impact on the effectiveness of the control strategies.
