Brewster angle Raman scattering from transparent crystals

Abstract

Abstract Crystals of poor optical quality resist attempts to obtain polarised Raman spectra and produce high background levels of scattered radiation which make low frequency studies impossible. It is shown that the Brewster angle scattering technique, usually reserved for opaque or nearly opaque materials, can overcome these obstacles and yield spectra of acceptable signal‐to‐noise, low background radiation levels and with good polarisation data.
