Large sample formulae for the expected number of matches in a category matched design.

Asymptotic expressions are derived for the expected number of matched groups which may be formed from two random samples of given size, using category matching. The asymptotic results show good numerical agreement with a previously published exact expression for samples as small as 20 when using 20 matching categories; furthermore the results are easier to compute.
