Tachyphylaxis occurs to repeated challenges with inhaled histamine but not with inhaled acetylcholine in asthmatic subjects. This study was undertaken to determine whether prior histamine bronchoconstriction reduces airway responsiveness to inhaled acetylcholine in mild asthmatic subjects demonstrating histamine tachyphylaxis.
