LEFT VENTRICULAR ANEURYSM IN RUBELLA HEART DISEASE

To the Editor.—The recent article in the Journal, entitled "Left Ventricular Aneurysm in Rubella Heart Disease,"1 was of special interest to me.In 1967 I had occasion to review the cardiovascular defects that had been described in association with the rubella syndrome. In a publication arising out of this review,2 two case histories are described which include pathologic findings that probably bear an important relationship to the above article.In case 1 in our publication, a prominent depression was observed on the lower inferior external surface of the right ventricle. The pathologist reviewing this finding was reluctant to give it any significance other than normal postmortem change. However, on histologic section it was observed that this region had incomplete muscle layers. In case 2 there were left ventricular changes, including variation in the size of muscle fibers and localized fibrous replacement, especially in the central portions
