Abstract
The pineal gland plays an important role in seasonal adaptation including variation in energy requirement. Animals exhibiting seasonal changes in their energy expenditure would be benefited if their cardiac and pulmonary systems respond to the pineal photoperiodic signal, melatonin, appropriately.
