Electives in the McMaster MD Programme
Abstract
Electives at McMaster are an integral part of the education of medical students. Students select a wide variety of elective experiences with almost 40% being outside Hamilton. Seven disciplines accounted for just over half of all electives during the 3–year programme. Electives are perceived by students as one of the strengths of the programme. There is need for more reports about the rationale and benefits of electives in medical curricula.
