Differences in MMPI Profiles With the Norms of Colligan et al

This study provided data, from a sample of over 2,000 Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventories (MMPIs), on the nature of differences in the number of elevated scales and in the 2- and 3-point code types that occur when norms developed by Colligan and his colleagues are applied. Although the results show some stability, they also show enough changes to make it strikingly clear that no one-to-one correspondence exists between the results of original norms and the results of new norms developed by Colligan, Osborne, Swenson, and Offord (1983). Until the clinical relevance of these differences is determined, Colligan et al.'s norms should be used not independently but in conjunction with the original norms.
