Brain metastases as a first presentation of lung cancer

Lung cancer has the highest mortality rate of cancers in the world, and commonly metastasizes to the brain. Given that advanced stages of lung cancer often result in metastases that have limited viable treatment options, prognosis is often poor for these patients. This holds true, and perhaps even more so, for patients whose first presentation of lung cancer is brain metastases. We present the case of an 89 year-old female patient with brain metastasis as her first presentation of lung cancer. She was treated with palliative radiotherapy of the whole brain.
