Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors: The Optimal Nutrition to Combat Burnout

Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the current understanding regarding nutrition basics, the importance of nutrition, and its role in wellness. It discusses what is known about the dietary habits of resident physicians and the systemic barriers affecting the nutrition of residents. The authors also provide an overview of the association between poor dietary habits and numerous potential negative health consequences. Lastly, the chapter suggests strategies which residents can use to help improve their nutrition to promote wellness and resilience.
