Neuroendocrine Findings in Depression, Anorexia Nervosa, and Bulimia

Abstract

Numerous endocrine abnormalities have been reported in depression, anorexia nervosa, and bulimia. Similarities in the abnormalities that have been reported may suggest that underlying mechanisms are interrelated. Moreover, anorexia nervosa and bulimia share a number of clinical features and family history. In this chapter, endocrine changes in depression, anorexia nervosa, and bulimia are discussed and the interrelation of these abnormalities between the illnesses is evaluated.
