LEPIDOPHTHIRUS MACRORHINI (ANOPLURA: ECHINOPHTHIRIDAE) EM ELEFANTE-MARINHO DO SUL (MIROUNGA LEONINA) NA ILHA ELEFANTE (SHETLANDS DO SUL - ANTÁRTICA)

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho é relatar a ocorrência do parasitismo por Lepidophthirus macrorhini (Anoplura) em elefantes-marinhos do sul (Mirounga leonina) na Ilha Elefante (Shetlands do Sul, Antártica). Este relato caracteriza a primeira citação deste piolho na Península Antártica. ABSTRACT The aim of this work is to describe the occurence of the parasite Lepidophthirus macrorhini (Anoplura) in southern elephant seals (Mirounga leonina) from Elephant Island (South Shetlands, Antarctica). This report characterizes the first record of parasitism by this species in the Antarctic Peninsula region.
