A traveling wave fault location method of hybrid line using time discrimination

Abstract

In order to solve the fault location problem of the three-stage hybrid line, a traveling wave fault location method with time discrimination is proposed by analyzing the traveling wave propagation characteristics of the hybrid line. Firstly, the fault section is assumed and the time errors of the fault transient traveling wave are calculated using the time errors that the fault transient traveling wave reached the end of the bus terminal. Then, the time errors are selected that satisfied conditions and the results are given with the double-ended method by comparing this time errors with the time errors that the fault occurred on the first and the end of the line. The PSCAD simulation shows that the proposed traveling wave fault location method of hybrid line with time discrimination can give an accurate and reliable result.
