Standard Gamble Technique

Abstract

Abstract In recent years, the concept of utility has been introduced to both clinical decision‐making and program evaluation. The standard gamble (SG) technique is a classic method of measuring an individual utility (i.e. preferences) under uncertainty. Its most prominent use is in generating the preference weights to be used in the quality adjusted life year (QALY) calculation. In this section, we briefly describe the technique and its underlying assumptions.
