Cost Effectiveness in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer of Unknown Primary Origin

Abstract

Treatment decisions in oncology depend upon an appreciation of the histologic type and anatomic primary site of the tumor. However, patients will often present with disseminated neoplasms which lack features of histologic differentiation and/or have an undetermined site of origin. The clinical management of these patients represents a major challenge, since the nature of these tumors is uncertain.
